Johanna Hoogendyk (b.1988) is a large scale figurative painter from Western Massachusetts. Her life sized oil paintings are of women whom she knows and connects to, and reflect her own perspective and experience as a young woman in a western culture in the 21st century. Her paintings strive to convey a psychological, intimate, and personal moment with one individual, as opposed to an objectified painting of a woman like so many paintings throughout the history of western art. Johanna Hoogendyk received her BA from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA, and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA.
